Welcome to Hindu Soc

Imperial College Hindu Society aims to promote, practice and protect our Hindu dharma whilst promoting unity amongst Hindu youth. We provide our members with ways to keep in touch with their faith and make new friends.

What we do

We start off the year with our Welcome dinner – join in with the fun and games alongside a delicious Indian buffet, in case you’re missing home-cooked food.

Next up is our biggest event, the ‘Ujaali’ Navratri Garba attracting hundreds of students. A night filled with performances, Garba and Dandiya is one of the highlights of every student year.

We hold regular spiritual discussion groups, prayers, pujas and aartis. We end with our Sanskriti dinner where we look back at all the fun we’ve had all year.

Being affiliated with the NHSF, we take part in the national initiatives such as the annual sports competition and Sewa week, which is jam-packed full of fundraising for our charities.

Our events always promise to be entertaining, spontaneous and unforgettable, welcoming Hindus and non-Hindus alike.

History

Founded in 2000 by Mohith Keshava Shastry and Shamin Shah, the Imperial College Hindu Society was formed due to a distinct lack of presence of Hindu activity and unity on campus. Starting off as quite a small society with around 30 members there used to be regular weekly events including sanskrit lessons, talks on aspects of Hinduism (ayurveda, vedic maths, gita, vedas, etc), and other more social events such as antakshari, rangoli competition and even a holi event. Joint events with other London Hindu Societies such as Kings, UCL and St. George’s also proved popular and by the end of the first academic year the number of full members had increased to over 100. With the support of the national body, NHSF, the Imperial College Hindu Society over the last few years has grown into an established and successful society.

Celebrations for our 10th anniversary took place at Sanskriti 2010 where we looked back on all the success we have achieved with committees from past and present.

We thank all those that have supported and helped the society over these years and hope that the society will continue to be a pivotal source of learning for future students.

So, sign up and become a part of our Hindu Soc family!
